BrioHR Review: Malaysian and Singaporean Payroll with Talent Modules

BrioHR is an HR and payroll platform built for Malaysia and Singapore, where its payroll module runs statutory submissions and bank files. It reports 1,000+ client organizations, holds ISO 27001 certification and lists compliance or approval links with LHDN, HRDC, PSG and MDEC.

Pricing is published in US dollars per billable employee: individual modules start at USD 2 a month, payroll at USD 3, and the All-In-One bundle at USD 12, with a USD 50 monthly minimum on most items. A free trial is available.

The verdict

BrioHR is my pick for a company with offices in both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore that wants one HR system for both entities and a proper talent layer on top. The payroll bundles cover the two countries, and performance, training and recruiting modules are more developed than Kakitangan's.

Its limits are the two-country payroll footprint and a price that adds up once you take several modules. Payroll is available for Malaysia and Singapore only, so Indonesian or Philippine staff need a separate local system.

For a Malaysia-only SME that just wants EPF, SOCSO and PCB done cheaply, Kakitangan is simpler and less expensive. For a 5,000-person regional group, Darwinbox has wider payroll reach.

Where BrioHR fits

Who it suits

BrioHR is built for SMEs and mid-sized companies, which BrioHR describes as 10 to 3,000+ employees, headquartered in Malaysia or Singapore, especially those with entities in both. Its own case study, Naluri, grew from a few users in one office to around 300 employees across several countries on the platform.

What it does differently

No other vendor here both publishes per-employee pricing and runs payroll for Malaysia and Singapore; BrioHR does both. It also sells talent modules (360-degree feedback, KPI and OKR tracking, competency management, development plans and training catalogs) that Malaysian payroll-first tools leave out.

How it gets bought

BrioHR raised USD 6.5 million and says its investors focused on client retention. It sells through a free trial, a free demo and published pricing, and supports buyers with an implementation team that handles preparation, migration and configuration through a single point of contact.

Its in-house HR experts also deliver content, training and certifications, and the same team runs the payroll outsourcing service. That makes BrioHR a practical choice for a company that expects to lose or change its payroll officer, because the vendor can step in and run the cycle rather than only support the software.

BrioHR pricing: modules and bundles in USD

BrioHR's worldwide pricing page lists starting prices per module and per bundle. Leave, expense claims, document management, training, time and attendance and project timesheets each start at USD 2. Payroll and performance management start at USD 3. Onboarding and recruitment start at USD 120 a month.

Bundles lower the per-module cost: Payroll Essentials and Talent Essentials start at USD 3.9, Payroll Pro and Talent Pro at USD 5, and All-In-One at USD 12. Onboarding is included free with any bundle. Most items carry a USD 50 monthly minimum and a few carry an RM200 minimum instead; you pay whichever is higher, the minimum or the billable-employee total.

Which bundle fits

Payroll Essentials combines payroll, leave and onboarding. Payroll Pro adds time and attendance. Talent Essentials combines performance and training, and Talent Pro adds recruitment. All-In-One adds expense claims, timesheets and document management to everything above, and is available for Malaysia and Singapore only.

Worked example

A 60-person Malaysian company on Payroll Pro at USD 5 pays about USD 300 a month at the starting rate. The same company on All-In-One at USD 12 pays about USD 720. Starting prices can change with headcount and contract terms, so confirm the rate in your quote.

Payroll Outsourcing

BrioHR also offers Payroll Outsourcing at a custom price, where its local payroll managers run monthly and ad hoc payroll cycles, statutory contributions and bank files.

BrioHR pros and cons

Strengths

  • Malaysia and Singapore payroll in one system

Payroll bundles cover both countries, with statutory contributions and bank files prepared each month.

  • Published USD pricing

Every module and bundle shows a starting price and the minimum monthly charge on the website.

  • Talent modules included

Performance management covers automated reviews, tailor-made appraisal forms, 360-degree feedback, pulse surveys, KPI and OKR tracking, competency management and development plans.

  • Fast support and frequent releases

BrioHR advertises support responses in under three minutes, 95%+ customer satisfaction and new features shipped every week, backed by dozens of local expert partners in Malaysia.

  • Security and uptime commitments

ISO 27001, AES-256 and TLS 1.2 encryption, SSO and MFA, and a stated 99.9% uptime across three or more availability zones.

Limitations

  • Payroll limited to two countries

The payroll module and payroll bundles are available for Malaysia and Singapore only.

  • Module stacking raises the bill

At USD 2 to USD 5 per employee per module, a company that wants payroll, attendance, claims and performance separately can pay more than the USD 12 All-In-One rate, so compare carefully.

  • Minimum monthly charges

A USD 50 or RM200 minimum applies to most items, which makes BrioHR less attractive than Kakitangan's free tier for very small companies.

BrioHR is built around Malaysia and Singapore, where it handles statutory payroll submissions and is approved by bodies such as LHDN and HRDC. Its module list runs from payroll and expense claims to shift planning and pulse surveys, and the vendor reports more than 1,000 clients. Buyers outside Southeast Asia should confirm local payroll coverage before assuming it applies to them.

BrioHR buying motion: trial, demo and bundle choice

BrioHR sells through a free trial, a free demo and published starting prices, followed by vendor-led implementation.

  1. Price your module list against the All-In-One bundle before the demo, because three or more separate modules often cost more than the bundle.
  2. Confirm whether each entity you run is in Malaysia or Singapore, because payroll is not offered for other countries.
  3. Ask whether your quote is in USD or ringgit and which minimum applies, since the pricing page mixes a USD 50 and an RM200 minimum.
  4. Use the free trial to run one payroll cycle with real contributions and bank files, because that is where implementation risk sits.
